The Poet provides "informal yet refined dining" in the midst of the Wealden Kent countryside in a charming 16th century building. Expect food of the highest standard from the finest provenance: local and seasonal, made by a team of chefs led by co-owner Petrus Madutlela.
In addition to the food, we have a great selection of fine wines and unique cocktails, as well as more than 70 craft gins.
The famous World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield which inspires the name of the pub. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry" and later won acclaim for his writing.
