Napoleonic Re-enactment Weekend brings History to Life at Hole Park
Living history from the Napoleonic era returns to the glorious grounds of Hole Park in Rolvenden.
Live firing cannons and musket volleys will fill the air with thunder and the fabulously dressed cavalry will carry out mock battles to thrill audiences across the weekend.
Children are welcome to join the ranks for trial sessions towards the end of the day.
In conjunction with the Napoleonic Association of Great Britain, Hole Park will be welcoming over 200 period re-enactors, who together will provide an energetic and exciting event which recreates the dramatic events which took place over two centuries ago. Different regiments depicting both the French and British armies in their respective camps will captivate audiences as they prepare to battle.
This year the event will once again be welcoming a group from Germany dressed in the uniform of the Kings German Legion and renowned Napoleonic look alike John Horwood will be leading the French forces.
From 10am daily, once the flag goes up, time is turned back and the actors all partake in authentic battles on the fields which resemble the battlefields of Europe more than two centuries ago. The actors are all dressed in amazing costumes and will be cooking and living as their forebears once did. The re-enactors will be pleased to show visitors around their camp and to share information and experiences.
During the mornings there will be smaller skirmishes and, in the afternoon, watch larger set piece battles. Everything is fair and the French are allowed to win occasionally! A grand parade will take place on Sunday morning.
Homemade teas and light lunches are available in the Coach House with additional catering on the field. Hole Park’s renowned gardens will be open throughout and will provide a peaceful contrast.
