Concert/Music, Performance

Step into a world of imagination, myth and magic with Fairy Tales & Golden Legends – a concert packed with enchanting music and rich storytelling. We begin with Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, including the iconic Wedding March and the shimmering Overture that evokes fairy wings, donkey brays and nocturnal mischief. Composed when Mendelssohn was just 17, this music captures Shakespeare’s dream world with youthful brilliance. From fairies to folklore, Dvo?ák’s The Golden Spinning Wheel is a symphonic poem rooted in Czech legend. While the story it tells is dark – complete with murder and magical revenge – the music is vivid and upbeat, full of Dvo?ák’s trademark charm and colour. The happily-ever-after ending leaves a satisfying sense of justice restored. Next comes a seasonal nod with music from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. The serene Evening Prayer and whimsical Pantomime transport us to gingerbread houses and forest glades – perfect listening as the festive season approaches. Finally, we conclude with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Suite from The Golden Cockerel. Based on a satirical story by Pushkin, this richly orchestrated suite brings exotic fantasy to life with lush melodies and vivid drama. This concert is a perfect pre-Christmas escape, where musical storytelling and fairy-tale imagery weave a magical spell.
