The annual event that lights up the night sky is almost here… The Lantern Parade volunteers share with us the theme and more information about taking part in the parade.

The Royal Tunbridge Wells Winter Lanterns Parade is an annual event organized by local arts organization CREATE and supported by the Round Table and Royal Victoria Place. It is a celebration of community and creativity, featuring amazing music from bands Bloco Fogo and TS Brilliant. The parade will start from Calverley Precinct at 5:30pm and make its way through the town, before finishing at Grosvenor and Hilbert Recreation Ground, where refreshments will be available.

This year’s theme is ‘Our Secret Garden’, which promises to bring a magical and enchanted atmosphere to the streets of Royal Tunbridge Wells. The parade will feature an array of colourful lanterns both large and small, all inspired by the secret garden theme and created by local families and artists. If you would like to make a lantern of your own, kits are available for £5 that contain instructions and everything you need. You just need to supply your own PVA glue and any decorative details. Choose to make a bird, butterfly, caterpillar, flower, gnome or ladybird lantern. Kits can be bought from a few Royal Tunbridge Wells shops: Whirligig, Saltmarsh Art Supplies, Manic Ceramix, and Serendipity.

CREATE has been organizing the lanterns parade for over a decade, and it has become a beloved tradition in the town, showcasing creativity and allowing everyone to come together and enjoy the beautiful lanterns. The event is suitable for all ages, and visitors can expect a festive and lively atmosphere. The parade is also a great way to experience the charm of Tunbridge Wells during the winter months. Mark your calendars for 4th February and join the parade for an unforgettable experience.
