Long distance cycling in Kent
The Avenue Verte cycle route skirts the area, however an official alternative is offered on the website which takes in Groombridge (the Spa Valley Railway too), High Rocks and the town all the way down to the Pantiles.
The Sustrans cycle route 18 will also take you through the wider region with Bedgebury Forest, Goudhurst and Matfield en-route described as “picture postcard villages”.
Explore Kent has a number of routes in Kent to discover; one locally is the Wealden Cycle Trail. This trail takes the rider through rustic rural Kentish villages that could be lifted from a story book. Come and admire the hops, gardens and orchards as well as the beamed, tiled and clapboard cottages.
Another fab cycle route is the circular starting from and ending in Royal Tunbridge Wells via Horsmonden – O the gorgeous villages you will see! Out of Royal Tunbridge Wells, you direct yourself towards Lamberhurst past Bayham Abbey. Climb the hill up to Horsmonden and enjoy the views on Yew Tree road looking out over Paddock Wood. The rest of the route takes you through Brenchley, Matfield and Pembury. It’s a great route for experienced road cyclists. Best country pubs on route too!

- Grand Circuit of Kent (130km) which edges into the borough at Frittenden, Sissinghurstand Brenchley
- Wally Gimber Trophy which starts out in Bells Yew Green, only a hop, skip and a jump from Royal Tunbridge Wells
