That’s right, this historic town in Kent, beat out international heavyweights like Rio de Janeiro to host the prestigious tournament.
While other international contenders like Greece threw their hats in the ring, Brazil surprisingly opted out after learning the competition would be held in the birthplace of Subbuteo itself, Tunbridge Wells. Looks like they knew they couldn’t compete on home turf!


Subbuteo, a beloved flick-to-play table football game, has a special connection to Tunbridge Wells. Invented in 1946 by Langton Green resident Peter Adolph, the game’s birthplace couldn’t be more fitting for this global competition.
The English Subbuteo Association (ESA) successfully lobbied the Federation of International Sports Table Football (FISTF), highlighting Tunbridge Wells’ unique heritage. This decision is sure to rekindle passion for the game not just in the UK, but around the world.
Mark your calendars! The tournament kicks off in September 2024 at the Tunbridge Wells Leisure Centre. Expect to see up to 32 countries represented, with 64 matches happening simultaneously during the early stages.
