The May Half Term is quickly approaching! Find out things to do, places to visit and make the most of the break with the family in Tunbridge Wells. The last week of May is a perfect time to experience the beauty of Tunbridge Wells and the stunning surrounding High Weald countryside. There are lots of different things to do, for all the family.

Explore Houses and Gardens

Over the week break, you could visit one of the many stunning houses and gardens around Tunbridge Wells. Little ones will love exploring the sprawling grounds and intriguing historic houses. Located just outside the picturesque village of Lamberhurst, Scotney Castle is a perfect destination. The castle is exceptionally maintained interior and gardens and the old castle and moat make for a stunning view! It’s also a good spot to have a drink and snack in the café!

There’s also a natural playground that is perfect for kids to explore the great outdoors. What’s more, families can venture on the Butterfly Spotter Trail, where you can discover and learn about the butterflies that reside in the elegant gardens.

Another great place to visit is Sissinghurst Castle Garden. Enjoy the curated garden and have a picnic on the green by the Café just around the corner. Home to the famous author and socialite Vita Sackville-West, there is an abundance of history in the tower at the centre of the Garden. Families can enjoy the Dragonfly Trail this May Half Term, where you can explore the Sissinghurst estate to explore and discover the bugs, birds, and animals that live there. Family Fun in Royal Tunbridge Wells

The Amelia Scott is hosting more Discovery Days during the May half term! Plus there will be Relaxed Opening, specially designed for those who prefer a more tranquil museum experience, including those with autism or other neurodiverse needs, along with their families and carers. These events, catered to children, allow for exploration around the library and museum. There is sensory storytelling, an activity station and a temporary exhibition to enjoy. The event is free to attend!

Enjoy the Weather in Pub Gardens

Another way to enjoy the great outdoors this half term break is by enjoying a cold drink at one of the beautiful pub gardens around Tunbridge Wells. Whether, you’re looking for green grass spaces or a cosy courtyard, there is a pub garden perfect for you to relax in and enjoy the weather. Get Immersed in Nature

Tunbridge Wells is the perfect destination for fresh air and exercise, with 69% of the Borough designated as a designated National Landscape! You can experience the natural beauty of the High Weald firsthand at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest. There are lots of different walking and cycling trails through the trees, so lots of options for the more or less keen walkers! The Pinetum has one of the finest collections of conifers in the country, and is a beautiful setting for peaceful walks and picnics in the rolling hills of the High Weald. Families can try the Stick Man trail. This short trail, open throughout the May Half Term, is a walk packed with entertainment. Just purchase an activity pack from the information point and start your adventure!

Experience the Spa Valley Railway

Another fun activity this Half Term is a ride on the historic Spa Valley Railway. Take a trip on a steam train from Royal Tunbridge Wells to Eridge, passing through scenic countryside and the charming village of Groombridge on the journey. The Spa Valley Railway offers a great family day out. There are excellent savings available with a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children. Plus, if you or your family are looking for a souvenir of your railway journey, the Tunbridge Wells West Gift and Model Shop is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from  10am to 4pm.
