Did you know?

Don’t miss!

With most of the region designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and dotted with ancient churches and oast houses, there is plenty of opportunity to soak up the English rural scenery which inspired greats such as Thackeray, EM Forster, Chagall and Tattershall Dodd.

The area also has the highest concentration of Historic Houses and Castles than any other area in England with famous gardens like the National Trust’s Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens.

Interesting local facts

Queen Victoria enjoyed donkey riding on the Commons when she holidayed in Royal Tunbridge Wells as a child.

Amelia Scott was a social reformer and campaigner for women’s suffrage. She lived and worked in Tunbridge Wells. Much of Amelia’s social activism focused on the needs of young, working-class women and mothers.

The clock mechanism from the Parish Church of St Dunstan in Cranbrook was the prototype for Big Ben and the organ contains parts originally designed for use at The Crystal Palace.
