Claudia from Glass by Claudia in Royal Tunbridge Wells gives us all the exciting details about this years South East Open Studios

From 3rd to 19th June 2022, nearly 60 artists in and around Royal Tunbridge Wells are taking part in this year’s 25th South East Open Studios event, giving members of the public, art lovers and visitors from around the country a unique opportunity to step into their studios and meet the creators behind distinctive and inspiring artworks.

SEOS is one of the most established annual arts events in the UK and takes place across Kent, East Sussex and the Surrey Borders. Nearly 300 artists are taking part in 2022, who practise a range of disciplines from painting to pottery and printmaking, jewellery making and textile art, sculpture and woodwork, glass making, illustration, digital art and mixed media.

Visitors can tour and explore studio spaces from custom sheds to remote workshops, beachside galleries to beautiful purpose-built studios. Many artists and makers are demonstrating and giving fascinating insights into their creative process.

The Royal Tunbridge Wells artists are delighted to have been offered a fantastic window space at Royal Victoria Place and a pop-up exhibition showcasing samples of their artworks can be seen on level 1 just opposite Monsoon and Accessorize.  Claudia Wiegand, designer-maker of fused glass art and owner of GLASS on Monson Road, has had the pleasure to coordinate art exhibitions for our local artists at RVP for over a year. These have been enjoyed by thousands of visitors and have been so successful for many of the artists, who are extremely grateful for this wonderful opportunity given to them by the manager of Royal Victoria Place, a true art lover.

Free South East Open Studios guides can be collected from various outlets including Saltmarsh, The Framing Centre and GLASS on Monson Road, and an online version can be found on www.seos-art.org.

Eighteen artists are located in Royal Tunbridge Wells centre, St. John’s and Southborough, with many more in Rusthall, Langton Green, Bells Yew Green, Groombridge, Eridge Park, Pembury and beyond.
