Life is a journey, and sometimes it leads us to unexpected places. For me, that unexpected place turned out to be Royal Tunbridge Wells when 2 years ago, I moved back to the UK from Portugal. This picturesque town has become my new home, and I couldn’t be happier about the decision to move here. In this blog, I’ll share with you the reasons why I chose to make Royal Tunbridge Wells my new hometown.

Why Move to Royal Tunbridge Wells: The top 7 reasons.

  1. Natural Beauty and Greenery

One of the first things that struck me about Royal Tunbridge Wells is its natural beauty. The town is surrounded by lush greenery, with parks, gardens, and woodland areas that make it a haven for nature enthusiasts. Dunorlan Park is a prime example, offering tranquil lakes, scenic walks, and vibrant floral displays throughout the year. The abundance of green spaces provides a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle of city life. Living near the Tunbridge Wells Common is a luxury, dog watching and walks across to High Rocks and the Beacon has become one of my favourites. We also enjoy a game of golf at the weekend or after work as the days get longer in Spring and Summer.

2. A Sense of Community

Moving to a new place can be daunting, but I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and welcoming community in Royal Tunbridge Wells. The town has a strong sense of community spirit, with friendly neighbours, passionate independent business owners and a range of local events and initiatives that bring people together. Whether it’s a market, a charity fundraiser, or a community event, I quickly felt at home.

3. Historic Charm

Royal Tunbridge Wells is steeped in history, and its historic charm is evident in its architecture and landmarks. The Pantiles, a beautifully preserved Georgian colonnade, is a must-visit spot where you can stroll along cobbled streets lined with shops and antique boutiques on the Lower Pantiles as well as cafes and restaurants. The town’s rich history is also reflected in its many elegant Georgian and Victorian buildings, which add to its unique character. The town is also surrounded by Historic Houses and gardens which make great weekend outings.

4. Cultural Scene

Despite its small-town charm, Royal Tunbridge Wells has a vibrant cultural scene. There is a museum as well as art galleries, theatres, and music venues that host a variety of events and performances throughout the year. Whether you’re into classical music, contemporary art, or live theatre, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here.

5. Convenient Location

Royal Tunbridge Wells is strategically located, making it easy to access other major towns in the South East of England. London is just a short train ride away (50 minutes), making it possible to enjoy the benefits of a quieter, more relaxed lifestyle while still having the capital city within easy reach. In the summer, we enjoy visiting the coast, with Hastings also only 50 minutes away by train.

6. A foodie haven

Royal Tunbridge Wells isn’t just a picturesque town; it’s also a food haven that delights the senses and caters to a diverse range of culinary preferences (we are in the Garden of England after all!). From quaint tearooms serving freshly baked scones with clotted cream to international eateries offering exotic flavours from around the world, this town has something for every palate. Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional pub meal, a gourmet dining experience, or a quick bite at a charming café, Royal Tunbridge Wells has a culinary delight waiting for you on every corner.

7. Excellent Schools

I cannot speak personally to this, but it is known that for those with children or planning to start a family, Royal Tunbridge Wells offers a range of excellent schools, both public and private. The town’s educational institutions have a strong reputation for academic excellence and a supportive learning environment, making it an ideal place to raise a family.

I am glad I chose Royal Tunbridge Wells as my home in Kent! The town’s natural beauty, sense of community, historic charm, food & cultural scene, and convenient location have all made it the perfect place to call home. If you’re considering a move to a peaceful yet vibrant town with a strong sense of community, I highly recommend giving Royal Tunbridge Wells a closer look. It might just be the perfect place for your next chapter in life.
